When my father brought me to the USA, he wanted me to finish High School and
then go to college and study medicine with the hope that one day I would become
a doctor. However, I did not o through with his wishes. Instead, I
joined the United States Air Force.
I enlisted in the USAF at the recruiting office in the International Hotel in
San Francisco, California. I did my basic training at
Parks Air
Force Base, in Pleasanton, California (now closed).
My first
assignment, after basic training, was to George Air Force Base in Victorville,
California.
After a year, I was assigned to Fuchu Air force Station, in Japan.
The next year I was assigned to Showa Air Force Station,
also in Japan. In
1957, I returned to the USA and was assigned to
March Air
Force Base, in Riverside,
California. Two years later I was assigned
to Malmstrom Air Force
Base, in Great Falls, Montana.
I was stationed at Malmstrom AFB for 10 years! That's where I met the love of my life... my wife, Melina... and where we were married... and where we started our family.
After my lengthy stay at Malmstrom AFB, my family and I were re-assigned to Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska for 3 years. Then we were sent to Bangor Air Force Base in Bangor, Maine for six months. After that we spent 3 years at Opheim Air Force Station in Opheim, Montana (10 miles from the Canadian border).
I was then
assigned to Kunsan Air Base in South
Korea. I was not allowed to bring my family with me at that time. So, I settle
them in San Jose, California and left for my assignment.
After six months, I was re-assigned to CCK Air Force Base in Taiwan, R.O.C.. I was there for 18 months before being re-assigned back to the USA.
I finished up my military career at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield , California. A 21 year career that I am very proud of.
